Amish people are considered transcendentalists because they live differently than everyone else. For example, formal education beyond 8th grade is discouraged; in our society, not finishing school is looked down upon. Based on religious reasons, Amish are excused from the state's compulsory attendance from the eigth grade. Clothing is homemade, mainly of plain material and dark colors. Religious views vary; Some of the different types of religions include: Anabaptist and Protestant. The Amish also isolate themselves from society by adapting behaviors and practices that are unusual for the American culture.
